Over the weekend we reported that Apple owns the domain ApplePico.com. Now it becomes much more clearer why they need that domain. PatentlyApple reports today that the US Patent & Trademark Office granted published an Apple patent Application that shows Pico Projectors integrated in the iPhone, iPad and as independent gadget for MacBooks.
As Pico Projectors already exist as independant gadgets and integrated in Phones and cameras. i see this Apple patent application as just a way for Apple to protect themselves in case the decide to integrate projectors in their products. For some reason we have not seen a tablet yet with an integrated projector, but it sure will come soon. Will it come from Apple? I am not sure. A projector feature is gimmicky for consumers and only valuable for business users. There is a rumor though that Apple wants to make a special iPad 2 plus for business users. Such an iPad Business could benefit from a Pico Projector.
