MeeGo OS dead before first devices hit the market? Digitimes carries a rumor report today that says that Intel is planning to temporarily discontinue development of MeeGo OS. This comes at a weird timing as Nokia N9 MeeGo phone hits select markets this month and we all wait for the $199 Asus Eee PC X101 netbook running MeeGo OS.
According to the report Intel is focusing on using Android and Windows Phone OS for its platforms. Intel responded to the report saying it stays committed to MeeGo. So for now we really do not know what will really happen. The future for MeeGo looks not that bright. The release of MeeGo hardware is ramping up really very slow. Additionally Nokia is now focusing on Microsoft Windows OS. Nokia is not even giving their first MeeGo phone a global launch. MeeGo would be an alternative for Android for those device makers that do not like the Google Motorola relationship.
