Google has now officially announced the launch of Google Wallet. Google Wallet is a mobile payment system based on NFC (Near Field Communication). Announced back in May, Google is now rolling out the first Wallet app to Sprint Nexus S 4G phone owners. To use Google Wallet you need a Citi MasterCard or the Google Prepaid Card. The Google Prepaid Card, which can be funded with any of your existing plastic credit cards. As a thanks to early adopters, Google is adding a $10 free bonus to the Google Prepaid Card if you set it up in Google Wallet before the end of the year.
The Sprint Nexus S 4G is available for only 1 Cent on Amazon Wireless with new contract, in case you like to use Google Wallet.
You can watch an introduction to the Google Wallet below. This is of course just the beginning. Google says that Visa, Discover and American Express could be supported in future version of Google Wallet.
Google opened the race. We are expecting Apple to join the NFC mobile payment market in 2012 with the iPhone 6.
