Apple is supposed to release on the iPhone 5 the Siri-based Assistant feature. In July we reported about the Assistant feature found in the iOS 5 software. Now 9to5Mac has published a report with more details on how Assistant is supposed to work on the iPhone 5. They also heard that Assistant is the biggest game changer in the iPhone 5. The Assistant feature is supposed to be smart. It is able to extract what you want it to do from full sentences. Assistant on the iPhone would allow you to say for instance: "Send a text message to Fritz saying that I will be late." Assistant would fire off an SMS with the message to Fritz.
Assistant is supposed to be deeply integrated into the iOS 5 to allow you to control almost everything with your voice. Apple has, according to 9to5Mac, also struck a partnership with Wolfram Alpha. This would allow you to ask computation questions or conversions.
It sounds too good to be true. One problem I see with voice control systems is needing a verification to see if Assistant really is doing what I told it to do. There would be some sort of visual feedback necessary. I can already see Tim Cook standing on the stage at the iPhone 5 media event October 4th and Assistant is doing something totally different from what he said.
Besides Assistant, the Nuance speech-to-text feature is also supposed to be in the iPhone 5. They are supposed to work hand in hand. If Apple really has managed to make a solid and smart voice assistant it would be a huge win against the Android phone camp.
