Apple willl unveil a new cheaper iPhone 4 dubbed iPhone 4S on Tuesday in the Let's Talk iPhone event.
The rumors around a new streamlined iPhone 4 named iPhone 4S have already turned almost to news. Rumors about a new lower cost iPhone 4 have been around for quite a while. They totally confused the iPhone rumor mill over the summer. It took a while until it was seen as likely that Apple will reveal two new iPhones in 2011. In recent days though we only see confirmation of the iPhone 4S and not of the premium iPhone 5.

I just hope that Apple is focusing all their security around the iPhone 5 and is less stringent on the iPhone 4S. We already reported about a leaked iPhone 4S barcode and now an iTunes beta build contains a reference to iPhone 4S according to 9to5Mac. The new iPhone 4S is dual-mode, which means it is the same iPhone device for Verizon and AT&T.
Gizmodo chimes in with a report from Brazil. Apparently the Foxconn factory is making iPhone 4S devices (N90A). The leaked images show though failed components. We also reported this week that the new Foxconn plant in Brazil has major issues.
The big question is how low the price of the iPhone 4S is. Will it be low enough for pre-paid? I just hope we also get a premium iPhone 5. At this point it will be a major disappointment if Apple is just releasing a slightly upgraded iPhone 4 at a lower price.
There is also still the chance that the scenario is like this: new cheap iPhone 4 and new iPhone 4S that actually is the iPhone 5, but has the same design but with more performance in several dimensions.
We will know for certain on October 4, when Apple is holding their iPhone event.
