What is going on at Netflix these days? First the surprise price hike in July that came with the split of streaming and DVD by mail subscription plans. The announcement drove tons of subscribers to other services. Then Netflix announced to put the DVD by Mail service into a separate business dubbed Qwikster and focus on streaming under the Netflix brand. Today Netflix' CEO Reed Hastings announces to on the company blog to not split DVD by Mail and streaming and that the Qwikster idea is dead.
Everything stays the same as it was. The price change stays though. Netflix argues that it would things more complicated for customers to have two websites that is why the scrapped the idea. This is was obvious from the start. Netflix lost a lot of reputation since the price hike announcement. This back and forth is not helping and will drive more customers to other services. DVD by Mail was defined by Netflix, but for online streaming there are many options. There is still no clear leader, but there are cool offers out there. Amazon for instances gives you free instant video streaming with the Amazon Prime membership.
