Ford has unveiled the new 2013 Shelby GT500. While the car looks much the same as the 2012 GT500 did this year on the outside, what's underneath is very different. Ford crammed what it claims to be the highest output production V8 in the world with 650hp and 600 lb-ft of torque under the hood. Despite all that power, the car still doesn't get hit with the gas-guzzler tax.
The new engine displaces 5.8L and uses a 2.3L TVS supercharger. All that power makes the car good for over 200 mph according to Ford. The 13 GT500 gets more than just extra power; the car also gets an updates drive train with a carbon fiber driveshaft and a lot more to handle the new power. Ford is also offering a new Performance Pack that adds Blisten shocks with sport and normal modes changeable from inside the car at the flick of a button. That package adds a Torsen rear differential and other go fast goodies as well.
The Performance Pack can be further upgraded with a new Track Pack that adds an external oil cooler, transmission cooler and differential cooler to the mix. Ford hasn’t announced pricing or availability on the 2013 GT500 at this time.
