I never would have thought about the rich in New York and other cities around the country turning away from chauffeur driven luxury cars to big honking' cargo delivery vans with tricked out interiors. Apparently, that exact thing is becoming very common though. Many wealthy folks in NYC are buying the cheap Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo delivery van and then getting the inside tricked out.
The money spent outfitting these vans turns the price of the van into many, many times what the modest ride started out at. When you pop the door of one of the vans that the NYT looked out the inside is every bit as luxurious as a high-end luxury sedan and much more roomy and private.
One van has a desk, a tablet, intercom, and two TVs with satellite connectivity inside for the owner to cruise in luxury with a chauffeur behind the wheel. Some of the owners even hold meetings inside the vans or even play dates for their kids. The $41,000 starting price of the Sprinter is not expensive, but the tricked out price of $189,000 to $500,000 can certainly break the bank.
