iZon lets you keep an eye on your room from anywhere

Specifications

The iZon Remote Room Monitor works with an app available for the iPhone only. It has a motion sensor and can record video to your YouTube account. The camera has a magnetic base, anchors and wall screws, and the required power supply. It measures 80mm x 194mm x 55mm and weighs 0.74 ounces. Power comes from a USB port.

In Use

The iZon Remote Room Monitor is a small little camera that is easy to place in a room or on a desk. It’s not small enough to be a spy camera, but it is small enough that you don't have to constantly stare at it. The camera is easy to set up once you download the app. The app is for iPhone only and walks you through all the steps you need to follow to get the camera set up.

The setup process is somewhat time consuming since you have to start with your phone in adhoc mode and then change it to your normal WiFi network, but the app walks you through the entire process. Once you are done the app will, start and you can view what is going on in a room from the room next door or a hotel around the world.

The camera also has a mic and picks up sound. The image quality is decent and the sound quality is too. One of the downsides is that if you use an Android device or any smartphone other than the iPhone there is no app for you right now. Another thing that I don’t like is that the lights on the camera flash and are distracting. That calls attention to the camera and get annoying if it is on your desk. The app will run on the iPad and iPod touch as well.

One of the cooler features of the camera is that it can send you push notifications. If you put the camera in motion detection, mode it will send you a message when it detects motion. The camera is available right now for $129.99 and works well.

Verdict

Pros

  • Relatively easy to set up
  • Small
  • Video and sound

Cons

  • Flashing front lights
  • iOS only app

Conclusion

The iZon Remote Room Monitor works well for a budget security camera with recording capability.
