Sony has launched the PS Vita in Japan amidst long lines in front of launch stores. See our PS Vita launch gallery below for photos of the PS Vita launch.
Available at 24,980 yen (including tax) for Wi-Fi model and 29,980 yen (including tax) for 3G/Wi-Fi model, PS Vita at launch will be accompanied with 26 exciting software titles along with a broad selection of peripherals and accessories. The PS Vita 3G/Wi-Fi model is supported by data communication prepaid plans provided by NTT DOCOMO, INC. for Japan.
The Sony PS Vita will launch on February 22nd in the United States and Europe. It would need a really big Super Bowl 2012 Ad to drum up a little excitement for the PS Vita over here.
The PS Vita Wi-Fi will sell for $249.99 and the PS Vita Wi-Fi 3G will cost $299.99 in the United States. I have high doubts that the high-end portable gaming concept will work. I am expecting them to slash the PS Vita price to $149.99 after the summer due to disappointing sales. The smartphone has replaced the PSP and the Nintendo DS for most gamers on the go. An expensive game console will just stay niche. Nintendo already suffered through the same thing with the 3DS.
