iPad 3 News and Rumors Round-Up

The Apple iPad 3 the next hot new Apple product that still has Steve Jobs' direct input. In recent weeks the iPad 3 rumor mill is already red hot. The most certain rumor is that Apple is announcing the iPad 3 on March 7. Apple has not officially confirmed this event. Another almost certain thing is that the iPad 3 will have a Retina Display. The Retina Display with its 2,048x1,536px resolution is also likely the single most biggest feature of the iPad 3. Everything else will just tag along. The only other big news could be LTE support.

Below round-up the latest news and rumors about the iPad 3. To stay on top on the latest iPad 3 developments, bookmark or iPad 3 tracking page, which is compiling all iPad 3 news from around the web.

iPad 3 News and Rumors:

Retina Display
The latest news related to the iPad 3 retina display is that MacRumors got their hands on a Retina Display part and analyzed it under the microscope.

iPad 3 CPU
According to the latest rumors the iPad 3 will not have the Apple A6 CPU, but will run on a new Apple A5X CPU.

iPad 3 Cameras
The iPad 2 has very basic cameras. The front facing camera can only record VGA video (less than 1MP resolution) and the back camera is able to record video with 720p resolution (1MP resolution). Both cameras are up for an upgrade in the iPad 3. The back camera is supposed to support 8MP.

LTE
A Wall Street Journal report says that Verizon and AT&T will offer a 4G LTE iPad 3

Battery
The battery is likely bigger in the new iPad 3, but that will not give you a longer batter life. The new Retina Display is just more power hungry than the current low-res display in the iPad 2. The bigger battery requires the iPad 3 to be a bit thicker.

Siri
Siri is likely not a feature of the iPad 3, but Apple is rumored to use Siri in its mystery Apple Television. If Siri is working in a TV, why not also use it in a tablet?

Design
The iPad 3 will be almost identical to the iPad 2. There are some rumors about a more tapered back and of course rumors say it will be thicker. This is actually something Apple is not pleased in doing. So I assume the iPad 3 will only be slightly thicker. Apple would never release a new version that is a lot thicker than its predecessor.
