Facebook App Center goes against iTunes and Android App Stores

Facebook launched its own App Store named App Center.

The Facebook App Center is aimed at growing the use of Facebook on mobile devices. The App Center gives developers an additional way to grow their apps and creates opportunities for more types of apps to be successful.

In the coming weeks, people will be able to access the App Center on the web and in the iOS and Android Facebook apps. All canvas, mobile and web apps that follow the guidelines can be listed. All developers should start preparing today to make sure their app is included for the launch.

For the over 900 million people that use Facebook, the App Center will become the new, central place to find great apps like Draw Something, Pinterest, Spotify, Battle Pirates, Viddy, and Bubble Witch Saga.

Facebook usage is shifting dramatically to mobile, which is a problem for the Facebook advertising business. Facebook updated their IPO S1 document yesterday with that situation. Facebook like many other companies struggle to find a good way to run ads on mobile devices that work.
