The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has expanded investigation in fires in certain versions of the Toyota Camry, RAV4 SUV, and other Toyota models. The government has added 600,000 Camrys and other vehicles to the probe that now includes 1.4 million cars and SUVs ranging from 2007 to 2009 model years. The investigation originally involved over 800,000 Camry and RAV4 vehicles in the 2007 model year.
The additional vehicles added to the investigation at this point include some 2008 and 2009 model Camrys along with 2007 to 2009 Yaris subcompacts in addition to all 2008 Highlander Hybrid SUVs. The investigation is over fires that can allegedly start in the doors of several models. So far, Toyota and the NHTSA have received 161 complaints of fires involving the vehicles with nine people injured.
