Report Claims Amazon Gave up Fighting Sales Tax to Focus on Same Day Delivery
If it seems strange to you that Amazon expended so much money and energy fighting states to prevent it from having to collect sales tax where it had no physical presence, and then suddenly gave up, you aren't alone. According to a recent report
, the reason Amazon suddenly gave up on fighting sales tax collection was so it could put distribution centers inside major cities all around the country.
According to this report the reason Amazon wants those distribution centers scattered all around the country is so it can offer next day delivery as standard and same day delivery for an extra charge. I can only imagine since Amazon has already hurt local businesses so badly with its much lower prices, being able to offer those lower prices and deliver the items the same day could be a crushing blow.
