Apple's former Retail boss Ron Johnson is rebuilding JCPenney. It looks like it has been a rough year so far. Ron Johnson wants to g et away from coupons and gimmicky sales. So far that did not work that well.
Apple just fired John Browett who replaced Ron Johnson as Apple's head of retail. Ron Johnson is busy recreating JCPenney. So far it has not worked so well. I do not think he will give up and go back to Apple. JCPenney got some tractions with unusual freebies recently. You got a free back-to-school hair cut for your kids with purchase. And now for the Holidays you get a free family portrait.
JCPenney is tries to be fair and square with their pricing. The fashion retailer killed coupons and tried a simple pricing scheme according to Time Business & Money. This was apparently more confusing for consumers and JCPenney actually will have sales again.
Ron Johnson said that there will be a JCPenney Black Friday 2012, but it needs to be fair and square and not gimmicky. Here is a simple idea: 40% off everything in the store, no exceptions. That is fair and square.
