The SID International Symposium 2005 is underway in Boston (site).
The major players like Samsung, Toshiba, Philips, Fujitsu showing off their newest display technologies.
Samsung showcases LCD TV Developments including Largest LCD Panel, First 40'' OLED and Advanced Back Lighting Technology.

Toshiba shows OCB for LCD TVs, OLEDs, and RoHS-Compliant Industrial LCDs as well as prototype displays for Cellular Phones, AV, Automotive and Mobile Computing.

Philips announces CloseView Mobile Display Technology at the SID. The CloseView "windowless" design allows handset makers to reduce both the size and thickness of their mobile phones by eliminating the need for glass covers that are traditionally used with handset displays.

The good thing is that the prices for Flat Panel TVs continue to drop fast. Pacific Media Associates (PMA) reports that the street price for 40- to 44 inch flat-panel TVs dropped an average of 13 percent from Q4 2004 to Q1 2005. Prices for 40- to 42 inch flat-panel LCD TVs even were falling 18 percent during this period. More details here.
