Benchmarks

Features & Specifications
NEC has been around for a long time and makes some great displays. Today we are having a look at the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX LCD display. The NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX display has a 500cd/m2 brightness, a contrast ratio of 1000:1, gray-to-gray response time of 6ms and the ability to display more than 16 million colors. Connectivity options include analog VGA and one DVI. Native resolution is the expected 1920 x 1200 for a 24” LCD. The display is also HDCP capable so with the right video card, a Blu-ray or HD DVD drive and this display you are ready to watch some HD movies.

Viewing angles are good at 176 degrees vertical and horizontal. The stand NEC used for the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX is great offering fantastic adjustability that you don’t always find on displays. You get the typical height adjustment along with swivel and NEC adds pivot as well. Overall size of the display is 22” x 16.5” x 10.6” with the stand and 22” x 14.4” x 3.9” without the stand.

NEC also integrated a USB hub into the design as well as some very effective cable management devices that virtually hide all the cables connected to the display. NEC also had the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX Vista Premium certified as well. A variety of adjustments are built into the display that you can access via the front panel. I found the display to be adjusted to my need right out of the box. There is also a no touch auto adjust feature.

Performance Testing
To see how well the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX performs I used it to play lots of PC games and watched “Casino Royale” on Blu-ray. First up was “Casino Royale” which looked fantastic on the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX. The opening black and white scenes of the movie showed good gray levels, nice deep blacks and good transitions between white and black. I noticed no tearing or smearing of the image on screen nor did I notice any ghosting. Colors were deep and vivid and skin tones we natural and very realistic. The image quality with “Casino Royale” was every bit as good on the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX as it is on my 42” Viewsonic LCD TV, which is saying a lot.

After I watched my test movie I moved on to PC gaming with some of my favorite games. High resolution gaming at 1920 x 1200 takes some video card muscle so if you are moving up to the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX from a smaller display for PC gaming you will want to be sure you upgrade your video card as well. You will need something along the lines of the NVIDIA 8800 GTS or 8800 GTX to get good frame rates at 1920 x 1200 on today’s most challenging games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R or Oblivion.

I used 8800 GTX SLI for my testing and the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX performed very well. Much like in the movie tests the display has realistic colors and skin tones. Black levels are very good for gaming as well and no ghosting was noticed during any of the game tests I performed. In normal office settings the 24” display is a great way to get more information on your screen at once. I was able to get four browsers open at once on the screen with no issues.

Overall, the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX is a very good LCD display that performs well in a variety of situations from movie watching to gaming and general computer use. The only thing I wished for that the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX didn’t have was a second DVI input. You can get the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX online from right at $750 which is a decent price at this screen size. If you want a large screen LCD display that can do it all at a decent price, the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX is worth a look.

Verdict

Conclusion

Pros

  • Great image quality
  • Fantastic stand
  • HDCP compliant

Cons

  • Could use a second DVI

Verdict
At the end of the day the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX is a great display for many different uses. If you are a PC gamer looking to justify the expense of a 24” display the fact that the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX is HDCP compliant may put it over the edge. The price is good and the NEC 24” MultiSync LCD2470WNX performs very well in testing.
