Japanese Byd:sign is starting to sell a 52 inch Projection TV with DLP technology for 299,800 yen ($2,750).
In Japan this new projection TV is a price breaker. It would not be in the USA, as a quick price comparison shows.
Still the new Byd:sign dc:5275dpj looks great. The TV has 1280×720 pixel resolution and a 1000:1 contrast ratio. Other features include DVI and SD-Card and Memory Stick slot for viewing photos.
The 16:9 Projection TV measures 1262×439×891mm.
More details on the Byd:sign site (Japanese). Via Nikkei.Net (Subscription).
Projection TVs are only really affordable in the United States. In Europe there are more Plasma and LCD TVs in electronic stores than there are Projection TVs.
