Sharp announces the world's largest full HDTV resolution LCD HDTV dubbed PN-655.
Sorry, Sharp is targeting this 1080p 65 inch monster LCD panel just for professional use and not for home theater use. There are Plasma HDTV with full HDTV resolution that are much larger though. Panasonic showed a 103 inch 1080p Plasma HDTV at the CES 2006. It is obvious that it is still much easier to make large Plasma panels.
The Sharp PN-655 is designed for presentation rooms or video conference applications. This new Sharp LCD HDTV panel features a brightness of 400cd/m2, a 700:1 contrast ratio and 170 degrees viewing angle. DVI and RGB input interfaces are available on the PN-655.
Sharp has actually the LC-65GE1 65 inch LCD HDTV (Thanks Stephane W.) on the market in Japan. The LCD Panel of the LC65GE1 has also full HDTV resolution, but apparently the TV only supports 1080i via its hi-vision tuner.
Sharp will start selling the PN-655 on March 24th in Japan. No pricing information available as of yet.
More details in this Sharp press-release (Japanese).
