US Military Research agency DARPA has several animal robot projects going on.

ABC News has an interesting report covering robolobsters and mind-controlled sharks. The report also mentions bomb sniffing insects and a robot pack mule. You can actually own a robotic shark. Gadget shop Hammacher hooks you up.
