Gran Turismo Series Shipment exceeds 50 Million

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced today that the cumulative worldwide shipment of the Gran Turismo franchise available on PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 has exceeded 50 million units as of April 30, 2008.
Sony achieved this sales figure achieved in 10 years and 4 months since the launch of the first title in the franchise - Gran Turismo, in December 1997.
If you compare that to the 6 million copies GTA IV sold just in one week this Gran Turismo sales numbers look a bit weak. Of course these two games very different and we should not compare it. Still GTA set a new level of what it means to have a sales record in the video game market.

Burnout Paradise Heads to PC

Some good gaming news early on a Friday first with BioShock becoming a movie and now EA says Burnout Paradise is coming to PC. I have played Burnout extensively on the PS3 and it is one of the most fun games for the console I have played.
PC gamers will be very happy to hear that Burnout Paradise is heading to the PC. According to EA the PC version will have all the gameplay of the original version along with new gameplay specifically for the PC. Read more

2K Says BioShock Slated to Become Live Action Film

2K Games made a really cool announcement today that BioShock is going to be turned into a live action movie by Universal Pictures. It seems that BioShock isn’t destined to be turned into a farce of a video game film like Doom was thanks to some top talent signed on for the film.
The director of the film will be Gore Verbinski who directed the fantastic Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy is on for producing and directing the film. John Logan, an Academy Award-nominated writer for Gladiator, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd is in talks to write the screenplay. Read more

Xbox 360 Jasper with 65nm GPU coming

A report from Taiwanese CENS indicates that Microsoft has started production on yet another Xbox 360 hardware redesign dubbed Jasper. We reported about Jasper back in October 2007 the first time.
Apparently TSMC has been chosen to make the 65nm graphics chips and north-bridge chips for the Xbox 360 Jasper version. The new Xbox 360 consoles are to be expected to ship in August.

EA and Steven Spielberg launch Boom Blox for Wii

EA and Steven Spielberg Launch Boom Blox video game for Nintendo Wii.
BOOM BLOX is the first game released in collaboration between EA and director and producer Steven Spielberg. The casual game has shipped in North America and will be available May 8 in Europe, May 13 across Asia, and May 22 in Japan for Wii.

Xbox 360 scores 60% of GTA IV Sales

As reported Rockstar landed a major sales record with Grand Theft Auto IV with $500 million in sales the first week. From the 6 million GTA IV copies sold apparently 60% are for the Xbox 360 console.
Microsoft's GameScoreBlog published retailer statistics that also show a strong sales increase in Xbox 360 console sales. Xbox 360 sales increase by 54% in the week of the GTA IV launch compared to the previous week.

Doom 4 Development has started at id Software

id Software announced that development of Doom 4 has started. The interest in Doom 4 is apparently overwhelming the id Software web server and it is unavailable right now.
There are no specific details available on Doom 4. id Software just says they have formed the team and hired a new developer for Doom 4.

Hiroshi Yamauchi richest Japanese thanks to Nintendo Wii

Forbes updated their Japan's 40 Richest list and the new number one is retired Nintendo Chairman Hiroshi Yamauchi.
Mr. Yamauchi net worth has risen by $3 billion in the past year thanks to the mega success of the Nintendo Wii. His networth is now $7.8 billion.
The shares of Nintendo have more than tripled in the past two years and the video game company is now worth $79 billion.

Marvel Super Hero Squad Video Games coming from THQ

THQ and Marvel Entertainment announced today that they have entered into an exclusive licensing agreement to create video games based on the Marvel Super Hero Squad franchise.
THQ has obtained the exclusive, worldwide rights to publish content for all current and next-generation consoles, handheld systems, as well as Windows PC.
The initial Marvel Super Hero Squad game is scheduled for release in fall 2009.

Sony PS3 outsells Xbox 360 in Europe says Sony

Sony held the PlayStation Day Conference in London yesterday. One short key message from the event is that the Sony PS3 outsold the Xbox 360 in Europe.
Apparently the Sony PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 since October 2007. Sony sold 5 million PS3 consoles across Europe.
