Black Friday 2008 has come and gone with more than a few reports of tragedy among the good deals. According to research firm NPD Black Friday sales have declined for the first time ever during the week of the busiest shopping day of the year.

NPD says that discounting was much less this year than in previous years and there was an emphasis on online shopping and less exciting products being offered. Despite reduced sales a few bright spots emerged, with one of them being notebook PC sales. Read more

Cyber Monday 2008 records 13% more Shoppers

Despite the economic crisis the Cyber Monday online sales bonanza drew more traffic than compared to Cyber Monday 2007.
Nielsen Online reports that Web traffic from home and work to the Holiday eShopping Index increased 10% year over year on Cyber Monday.
Unique visitors to the sites included in the Index reached 35.9 million, a 13% increase over this year’s Black Friday Web traffic.
