Another one of the hotly anticipated DirectX 10 PC gaming titles everyone is waiting for is EA’s Hellgate: London. Unfortunately, I didn’t get hands on with this particular game, the PR guy showing it off bogarted the keyboard for the entire time I was around.

This was the first time I saw the graphics and game play in person and both looked great. The thing that impressed me the most about Hellgate: London was that while the game is called an RPG, you could also call it a shooter as well. I say that because you can play several classes of characters from those that use blades, with game play much like that of Oblivion which I always thought of as a first person slasher.

However, if blades aren’t your style you can choose another character class and Hellgate: London is every bit a shooter. The three character classes include the Templar who are the users of blade for melee and short-range attacks. The Cabalists use magic for medium range attacks, and the Hunters, who are the shooters, capable of fighting from long range, medium range and short range.

Another cool feature is that the levels in the game are dynamically generated so the game is replayable and the levels will never be the same. I saw a map where you go into the brain of another character to fight his ego (sounds weird, but it was pretty cool) change totally not only in layout, but in the type of opponents in the level as well.

Another cool feature is that each class has multiple different skills, Mad Skills they are called, that allow further customization of your character to your style of play. Graphically Hellgate: London is everything you would expect a DirectX 10 game to be. I found Crysis to be more visually appealing, but Hellgate looked fantastic. I was unable to confirm a ship date other than 2007, but I would be we see the game in time for holiday shopping.
