Today Sanyo announced a pair of new GPS units for the U.S., the NVM-4070 and the NVM-4050. The NVM-4070 has a large 4”, 16:9 widescreen touch activated display. The unit provides text-to-speech, turn-by-turn navigation for audible directions.

The system comes with maps of the entire U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii, plus Canada and Puerto Rico. The database has over 1.8 million points of interest covering airports, hotels, restaurants and entertainment.

The 4070 is also equipped to receive data from the Traffic Message Channel, which provides real-time info on crashes, construction and traffic. The TMC service is included for 90 days then requires a monthly fee. This device also acts as a Bluetooth speaker phone when connected to your cellular phone.

The 4050 has the same features minus the ability to connect to the Traffic Message Channel. "With over twelve years of experience, SANYO is an established leader in Japan's portable navigation market, and the company is now rapidly advancing with products designed specifically for American consumers," said John Lamb, Senior Marketing Manager for SANYO's Audio Video Division. "The NVM-4070 and NVM-4050 Easy Street systems provide highly-desirable feature sets and exceptional ease-of-use that will appeal to diehard road warriors and casual travelers alike." Via Sanyo
