Sony announced the first commercially available OLED TV XEL-1 in October.
The Sony XEL-1 is an 11 inch OLED display that is only 3mm thick. Other stunning performance indicators include a dramatic 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a low 45W power consumption.
Japanese news site Tech-On got one of the first shipping Sony XEL-1 and published unboxing photos and first hand test experiences.
There are currently for parts to the Sony OLED TV coverage on Tech-On:
Part 1 - Unboxing of the Sony OLED TV XEL-1
Part 2 - More unboxing
Part 3 - Watching digital TV on the XEL-1
Part 4 - OLED TV instruction manual
It is still not known if Sony will release their first OLED TV outside of Japan. I am not sure if there would be many buyers for an 11 inch TV at a price of about $1,740. Sure it is thin and has high-contrast, but at 11 inches it is more decorative than useful.
