Last year in September we reported that Munich would get a cutting edge high-speed train to blaze from the city center to the airport.
New cost estimates for the 23 mile high speed connection reached the amazing amount of $4.7 billion. A couple months ago it was only $2.6 billion.
The main cost factors are related to building the track and make it somewhat integrated in the urban area. I guess the majority of the Munich population (including its Mayor, who has been against the Transrapid) is actually happy that Bavaria cannot afford to build the Transrapid.
Via Sueddeutsche (German).
