I owned more dirt bikes growing up than I can remember and used to ride them in all sorts of places that may or may not have been approved for dirt bikes. Thanks to that little fact I did have the police come and run me off on several occasions.
Commonly it wasn’t because I was tearing anything up; rather it was all the noise that the two-stroke gasoline engines produced that would rain on my parade. A company called Zero Motorcycles has the answer to that problem with an all electric motocross bike that produces no noise, needs no gas and has performance on par with a 250cc gasoline bike.
Zero says that the bike runs on 300 amps and can accelerate from 0 – 30 in under 2 seconds. One of the things that hardened riders will appreciate is that 100% of the torque is available at all times. The complete motorcycle weighs only 140 pounds. Range for the battery pack is 40 miles and charge time is 2 hours. The standard Zero X costs $7450 with a high power version going for $8350.
