Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has announced what it calls a personal transport robot today that is ridden in a standing position. Toyota says that the Winglet is still being refined at this point. The Winglet is a compact transportation tool that TMC says is designed to enhance a user's mobility.
TMC created three different models dubbed the L, M, and S. Each model has different handling features for different needs from practical to sporty and hands free. The body of the Winglet has an area about the size of an A3 sheet of paper.
Inside the body are an electric motor, two wheels, and internal sensors for monitoring the user's position and adjusting power for stability. All models are 265mm long by 464 mm wide. The height varies with the handle users can hold. The S is 462 mm high and has only a small handle, the M is 680mm high, and the L is 1130 mm high. Cruising range for the S is 5km and the other two robots have a 10km range. TMC says a full charge can be achieved in 1 hour and the maximum cruising speed it 6 km/h.
