More Notebooks and PCs News
HP made a bold announcement yesterday that it has a notebook that can now run 24-hours on a single charge. There is a long list of caveats to reach the 24-hour runtime though. The notebook in question is the HP EliteBook 6930p and it has to be using specific HP hardware and software.
HP says that the notebook has to be running a special HP BIOS, new Intel graphics drivers, and Windows XP on the software side. Required hardware includes an optional ultra-capacity battery, 80GB Intel SSD, and HP Illumi-Lite LED display. The display needed will launch in October and promises a 4-hour battery life improvement based on a normal LCD.
HP also says that the other hardware components will affect battery life and it didn’t say what CPU was used to get the 24-hour number. HP also says that it used an industry standard benchmark, but did not specify what the benchmark was. That makes the claim rather dubious in my eyes. If it can run 24-hours just sitting there doing nothing that’s not much to speak of. If you could work on the PC or watch movies on it for a full 24-hours, that is something altogether different. I hope that HP will clarify their claims a bit more.
