Just a day before today's Apple iPod announcements Microsoft unveiled new Zune music players and a new Zune software update.
Microsoft expands the Zune player line-up with a new 16GB and 120GB player and a new blue-on-silver and an all-black color scheme.
The new Zune software adds new features like Buy from FM. Buy from FM allows you to tag and purchase songs you hear on FM radio stations directly from the Zune player.
When you are in a Wi-Fi hot spot, the song can be immediately downloaded to the Zune device. If Wi-Fi is not available, the device will have a queue of songs ready to download when connected to a home computer or in a hot spot. Buy from FM uses Radio Data System and RT+ data feeds within the FM broadcast frequencies that identify song and artist data and enable the Zune service to identify and deliver the track to you.
The new Zune software also allows you to directly access the Zune Marketplace from the Zune player over Wi-fi.
You have the choice in how you buy music for your Zune: You can pay per track or choose a Zune Pass subscription. Zune Pass subscribers can download or stream music to the device or their computer interchangeably, all for a flat rate of $14.99 per month.
The new features will begin rolling out on Sept. 16, 2008.
The new Zune pricing effective Sept. 16th is as follows: Zune 120GB: $249.99, Zune 80GB: $229.99, Zune 16GB: $199.00, Zune 8GB: $149.99 and Zune 4GB: $129.99.
You can pre-order the 120GB Zune already on Amazon.com.
