I have often wondered exactly how rugged so-called rugged computers actually are. DRS set out to prove how rugged its Armor X10 Rugged Tablet PC was by strapping it onto the back of a motorcycle as the bike raced the Baja 500, widely known as one of the most brutal off road races in the world.

The computer used in the demonstration was a stock system that can be bought off the shelf and was using an Intel SSD. The PC ran for the entire 11 hours of the race through all sorts of shocks and vibration. Anyone who has ridden a dirt bike knows what sort of shock and vibration off-road riding causes.

DRS is proud that Intel selected our rugged ARMOR X10 tablet to demonstrate their new solid state hard drive," said Bill Guyan, vice president, Business Development of DRS Tactical Systems. "ARMOR products are designed to meet the extreme challenges of shock, vibration, dust, and temperature - exactly the kind of rugged demanding environment as the SCORE Baja 500 race."
