Bestselling Sony Notebooks Materials and Energy Research Institute Tokyo Ltd. has supposedly developed one of the smallest fuel cells ever created for a notebook computers.

The fuel cell measures 30x20x1mm and weighs 5g. Fifty cells are used to produce the 25 watts of power required by notebook computers.
The fuel cell can operate twice as long as lithium ion batteries of comparable storage capacity at room temperature. The fuel cell developed by the institute uses sodium borohydride as fuel and does not require a mechanism to extract hydrogen. It can produce four times as much power per unit area as methanol-driven fuel cells.
