Asustek (Asus) has announced their earnings and CEO Shen made some statements about their plans for 2009. Apparently Asus plans to ship an Eee PC netbook price at a low $200 price point.
With a decent configured $200 netbook Asus could be winning back the netbook forerunner position again. Currently other netbook vendors gain better reviews at least in the U.S., but Asus has most of its revenue coming from Europe (53%) and Asia Pacific (36%) anyway. This would leave only 11% maximum for North America.
This is surprisingly low, but shows how much sales growth potential Asus still has in North America.
Asus revealed that currently 70% of shipped netbooks have a HDD and only 30% feature the SSD storage alternative. Windows XP is outselling Linux 7:3.
