A team of Computer Science Students at the University of Freiburg in Germany hacked a Robosapien to make it autonomous.
This very cool hack of the Robosapien is a bit cruel. They amputated the head and the arms of the Robosapien.
The head got replaced with a Pocket PC and a digital camera on top. The arms got removed because the Robosapien, called NimbRo-RS was competing at the RoboCup 2004 in walking and balance competitions. The arms of the RoboSapien are very heavy and make it difficult for the Robosapien to walk straight.
Interesting videos of the Robosapien walking can be found here. The University published the C++ API for the Robosapien Hack. (news via Slashdot)
The standard edition Robosapien sells usually between $89 and $99.
Check the cheapest online store offers. Amazon.com sells the Robosapien now for $89.99.
