Today Intel and AMD spin in competing press-releases their leadership in Supercomputing. AMD's supercomputer press-release is titled: "AMD Dominates Top 10 Supercomputer Sites and Provides the Muscle for World’s First Entirely x86-based Supercomputer to Achieve Petaflop Performance". Intel's release headlines with "Intel Inside More Than Three Quarters of The World’s Fastest Supercomputers".
Both releases are triggered by the release of the new TOP500 Supercomputing Sites list. Fun to see how you can spin the results of that list either way.
AMD highlights the fact that 7 of the Top 10 Supercomputers run on AMD Opteron Processors. Intel looks at all 500 supercomputers listed and highlights that 379 of the 500 are running Intel CPUs.
Intel and AMD, calm down, You are both super good, but Intel has the cool Core i7 CPUs out now and AMD not.
