Acer Holds Top Spot in Netbook Market

The netbook is both a blessing and a curse for the computer industry and the CPU industry. It’s a blessing because in the tough economy right now the netbook is helping to keep the PC market afloat. The netbook is a curse because the machines sell for less and therefore turn less profit for the computer makers.
Virtually every computer maker in the country is now offering a netbook and you might expect something like the Asus Eee or MSI Wind to be at the top of the best sellers chart. You would be wrong. According to DisplaySearch Acer with its Aspire One holds the most market share in the netbook realm.
The One has 38.3% of the netbook market followed by Asus' robust Eee line with 30.3% of the market. Rounding out the top five in order are HP, MSI, and Dell. I believe one of the biggest factors helping Acer is the fact that Walmart has displays with the little netbook in its retail outlets in prominent positions to woo shoppers to buy. The Aspire One is the only netbook I have seen in Walmart stores to date.
