Tiny little ultraportable computers like the OQO Model 2 never really caught on. The machine had an odd form factor with very limited performance that left too many compromises for most users to jump on the product. With the advent of the netbook, some users are now used to working with smaller machines so perhaps the new model of the OQO coming at CEs 2009 has a better shot at success.
According to GottaBeMobile, the OQO Model 2+ will break cover this time next week at CES 2009 running an Intel Atom processor at 1.86GHz. The rig is said to be using 2GB of Ram and feature a touchscreen.
The current OQO rig uses a 1.6GHz VIA processor and only 1GB of RAM. The new machine should have much better performance. The slight details of the machine came from an invitation from Digital Experience and said, "OQO, Inc. announces the new model 2+ with the Intel® Atom™ processor, the world’s first PC OLED display, and worldwide 3G capability. Based on the 1.86GHz Intel Atom processor and 2GB RAM, the OQO model 2+ offers performance up to twice as fast as its predecessor and includes an embedded touchscreen for easier input."
