Blackberry has taken some lumps over its latest handsets the Storm. The Storm was the first touch-enabled handset to come from Blackberry and many buyers took issue with the handset as it was delivered citing poor performance and a tendency to crash.

iSuppli took a Storm and disassembled it to find out how much the components inside the device cost to get an idea of how much the handset was costing RIM and how much the firm was making off each unit sold.

According to iSuppli, the cost of components and manufacturing for the Storm totals $203. By comparison, the firm found that the iPhone 3G cost under $175. iSuppli also points out that the figure for the Storm doesn’t take into account software, patent licensing, or distribution. The Storm sells for $249 in the US and then offers a $50 mail-in rebate.
