NEC has announced that it is now sampling its 3.1-inch 3D TFT LCD module for a Mobile3DTV prototype device. 3D TV has not yet caught on in homes and already NEC is working to put it into mobile phones. The prototype product will be on display at MWC 2009.
The screen provides wide viewing angles and requires no glasses to view 3D content. That is key for mobile 3D viewing as no one would really want to be walking around wearing ugly 3D glasses.
The demo product was built as part of a three-year plan to prove the viability of mobile 3D TV broadcasting that started in January of 2008. The prototype device also uses technology from MM Solutions AD that allows for real-time decoding of the streaming 3D content.
