In response to sagging CD sales, electronics retailer Best Buy may soon start selling vinyl records, according to a report in the New York Post.
The report goes on to claim that Best Buy is considering dedicating 8-square feet in each of its 1,000 plus stores, leaving room for approximately 200 albums, after a test in 100 select stores proved successful.
The reason behind the seemingly bizarre move? Vinyl sales are up. The report claims that vinyl record sales grew15 percent year-over-year in 2007, and 89 percent in 2008, while CD sales have fallen roughly 20 percent in each of the last few years.
Best Buy currently sits in third place behind iTunes and Walmart in terms of total US music sales.
