It's confirmed; Atari will not be showing off anything at E3 this year. The ancient gaming giant has officially stated that, while it will be attending E3, it will not be exhibiting anything or hosting a booth this year. This is big news; Atari is a fixture of the gaming industry, and the fact that they are going to be absent from the expo says a lot.
Atari's been trying to morph from a normal game developer to a fully online game publishing house. Their decision to absent themselves from E3 sounds like it was primarily due to a time crunch. A company spokesperson said,
"Although we feel E3 benefits the entire games business, we are very focused around other selling and marketing initiatives for our upcoming Ghostbusters, Champions Online and other to be announced titles."
Which, roughly translated, means that they've got way too much going on right now to strain themselves getting a presentation ready for E3. There was a time when such a decision would've been almost unthinkable in the industry, but E3 doesn't hold the importance that it once did. Atari fans needn't worry though; Ghostbusters: The Video Game will still be at E3, although it'll be in Sony's hands.
