Ever since we heard about the Zune HD we've been scouring the Internet for every single rumor we could find. Microsoft's kept most of the details under fairly heavy wrap, but a few strategic leaks have gone out. One of them comes from Paul Thurott, a Windows expert who Engadget considers reputable.

Mr. Thurott claims that he has been told that the Zune HD will be coming to stores on September 5th. Microsoft stated before that the HD would be released in the Fall, so this rumor does gel with what we know already. It's possible Microsoft let this little tidbit out through Mr. Thurrott in order to drive up a little extra anticipation for their new gadget. September 5th is just far enough out to give consumers time to scrape together a few hundred bucks for a new toy.

The September 5th release date is far from confirmed, but it seems very likely to be true. We'll keep an ear out for you.
