Moments ago, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata gave us a glimpse at the future of the Wii. The Wii Vitality Sensor, which looks like a pulsoximeter that attaches to the Wiimote, is Mr. Iwata's newest brainchild. He bills the Vitality Sensor as a relaxation and health device.
Basically, the sensor measures your pulse rate and then allows you to "see information relating to the inner world of your body". Iwata claims that people will be able to help themselves relax, lower their heart rate, and even get to sleep by playing the games that will come out with the vitality sensor. Nintendo is basically billing this as a way to measure and lower your level of stress through a series of Wii 'exercises'.
We still don't know what form the vitality sensor games will take, or just how Nintendo intends to relax us by measuring our heart rate. Iwata said that this new device was about 'making the invisible visible', which conjures up images in my head of swimming through a simulation of your own bloodstream created based on the info picket up by the sensor. We don't even have a rumored release date at this point, but we'll keep you informed as more news hits.
