Well, the WWDC keynote has ended and the iPhone 3GS has been announced for release in less than two weeks. We've seen our first official images of the 3GS and we can now confirm that virtually every rumor about the design of the new iPhone was 100% wrong. No rubber back, no light-up Apple logo, and no front-facing camera. The new iPhone looks almost identical to the last one.

That's not a bad thing, of course. The old (and current) iPhone design is perfectly suitable for the product. It's slender, slick-looking and as ergonomic as any other smartphone. Hardware and app capabilities were obviously much greater concerns for Apple.

The Apple Store has already been updated to reflect the launch of the iPhone 3GS and the price drop in the old iPhone 3G. If you pick up the new 3GS now, it'll arrive by June 19th. Looking at the old and the new iPhones face-to-face gives us a real idea of just how little has changed on the outside.

Apple's new smartphone won't beat the sexy new Samsung i7500 for looks, but it has more than enough cool features and hardware to stay at the top of the pack. Old Apple customers are going to pick the 3GS up in droves, and new customers have the super-cheap 3G and a whole galaxy of new apps to draw them in. I'm sure that's what Apple is betting on, at least.

In less than two weeks the iPhone 3GS will be out in stores. We'll know within the first 48 hours whether or not substance really is more important than style.

You can pre-order the new iPhone 3G S now on the Apple Store.
