Be on guard, Apple fans, the Mac you love and rely on may be damaging your body. A study from the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane has shown that using a glossy monitor, like those found on virtually every modern MacBook, can be dangerous.

"Reflections and glare on high gloss monitor screens and their relation to the angle of the monitor screen, could cause the operator to adopt awkward postures when viewing the monitor screen and using related equipment...” the study warns.

Reflections on the screen from lighting or window glare can cause the sort of situations that may result in injury. The study recommends looking at your lighting set-up and room layout to find ways to minimize glare. It also states that placing your monitor at a 90 degree angle will help to minimize reflections and aid in keeping good posture. Setting your monitor to a 'low brightness' setting may also help.

Honestly, the main thing to take away from this study is to always be aware of your body, even when you're trying to lose yourself in a computer game or Internet surfing. If your back and neck are hurting you, try to figure out why and do whatever you can to reduce that strain. Posture is important, even when no one is looking.
