No matter what sort of media player you use, everyone has to give props to the Walkman. It was the first popular portable music player, and the grandfather of our generation's inability to go anywhere without being accompanied by music. Sony Ericsson's W518a is the newest member of this venerable line, and it's got some seriously sweet features that make it a worthy successor to the name 'Walkman'.
On the outside, the W518a is a normal flip-top mobile with a display screen and controls built into the front. That way you can use it as a music player while it rests safely in your pocket. Unless you're making a call you never need to unfold this Walkman. Ericsson's put 'Shake Control' technology in this bad boy, which lets you shuffle, skip, or change the volume by jostling your phone the right way. It's also got gesture control, which lets you ignore calls or turn off your alarm by waving a hand over the camera.
Outside of its awesome media player features the W518a is a pretty normal mobile phone. It costs $49.99 with a 2 year contract from AT&T. It launches on July 19, which means that this Sunday is going to be a very big day for Ericsson.
