Five years ago, the idea of anyone who wasn't a huge tech geek or mediophile owning a home server was ludicrous. Now, thanks to the proliferation of media boxes and digital storage among even the technologically illiterate, the time is right for home servers to really take off. At least, that's what I imagine Lenovo was thinking when they built the Lenovo IdeaCenter D400. The company tweeted an image of this gorgeous beast earlier today, and We Got Served has the full photo spread.
Right now we don't have much besides teaser images and info from the Chinese version of this product, which hit stores on August 5th. We do know that this server will have four swappable drive bays housed inside the gigantic cube, which features 4 USB ports and an eSATA port. The IdeaCenter only consumes 40W of power, although there's no word on whether or not that includes the add-in hardware monitor.
This is Lenovo's first home server, so there aren't any prior products to help us judge quality on. Until we see one of these in the flesh and get a chance to poke around on it, we'll have to trust Lenovo's reputation for all-around quality products. And the fact that this machine is really, really pretty.
