We've been waiting a long time for the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60 and M20 to hit a US carrier, and now it looks like we're about to get our wish. Unfortunately, according to Gizmodo that carrier is AT&T.
At yesterday's Taiwan M20 launch, a Garmin-Asus representative stated to Pocket-Lint that the M20 was “destined” for the AT&T carrier when it comes stateside. There's also information from DigiTimes that the G60 is shipping to AT&T very soon. They also found out that Garmin is expected to take care of marketing these handsets in North America.
Both the G60 and the M20 are very attractive smartphone/GPS devices. The G60 has a 3 MP camera, a music player, a 3.5” touchscreen, Linux-based OS, full HTML browser, and 3G capability, all built around a Garmin GPS. The M20 is a little less beefy, with a 2.8” touchscreen, 3 MP camera, 3G capability and, of course, the GPS.
We don't have information on the US price of either phone, or whether or not we can expect AT&T to have exclusivity. During a conference call a company representative stated that the G60 was in the final stage of testing with US carriers, emphasis on the plural. Something tells me Garmin and Asus are going to want these mobiles sold in as many places as possible.
