Sony's announced another new Walkman MP3 player today; the E-Series. This player has the same basic design as the S-Series, and it also features Sony's “Clear Audio” technology. It packs a 2” QVGA LCD screen capable of supporting 30 FPS video. The battery can power 30 hours of audio playback, or 4 hours of video playback.
The E-Series has codec support for MP3, WMA (DRM), AAC (non-DRM), and Linear PCM. For video, it supports WMV (DRM). It can also support JPEG photo format. The E-Series comes in 8 ($80) and 16 GB ($100) versions.
Nothing about this new walkman is particularly impressive, save for the price. If you're in the market for a low-cost media player from a solid manufacturer, you could do a lot worse than the E-Series. If you're interested in reading up further, you can do so here.
