3D movies are supposed to make going to the cinema an exciting event again. Since upgrading a digital cinema to 3D is not that expensive they are mushrooming all over the place.
Going to the movies is also a social event though, and for lots of people wearing the normal realD 3D glasses is an awful experience as they feel they look stupid.
Well this could soon be over. According to Variety (via 3Ddisplayinfo and Worstpreviews) a RealD executive said that designer 3D glasses are coming to select stores before the December launch of the movie Avatar including Gucci 3D glasses. RealD is the company behind most 3D movies. The first RealD 3D movie was Chicken Little back in 2005. I saw that back then and I still own the custom Chicken Little 3D Glasses - wearing these definitely made me look stupid.

Owning your own designer 3D glasses for going to the movies could become the next big trend and maybe also a hot Christmas gift for cinema fans.

RealD also said that prescription 3D glasses are also in the works.
